Just Thinking About April Fool’s Day Before Snapping Back Into Reality
I’m sitting in front of my laptop on April Fool’s Day, and guess what, I haven’t been fooled by my stepchildren, my wife, or my neighbour, but officially they have until midday to get me.
Australia, Canada, the UK and New Zealand only celebrate April Fool’s Day until noon. Hmm, must be because there aren’t quite as many fools in those countries as there are in others.
Nah…Nobody is going to get me, not unless a “pinch” and a “punch” counts, which by the way I was just on the receiving end of. If that’s the case, then yes my wife and stepson just got me.
Hmm, what can I do to “prank” them back I wonder? I only have three and a half hours to think of something.
Speaking of pranks, according to museumofhoaxes.com the top 10 hoaxes of all time are:
1. The Swiss Spaghetti Harvest -BBC News 1957 (see YouTube video)
2. Sidd Finch -Sports Illustrated 1985
3. Instant Color TV -Sweden 1962
4. The Taco Liberty Bell -Taco Bell 1996
5. Sans Serriffe -The Guardian 1977
6. Nixon for President -NPR Talk of the Nation 1992
7. Alabama Changes the Value of Pi -New Mexicans for Science and Reason
8. The Left-Handed Whopper -Burger King 1998
9. Hotheaded Naked Ice Borers -Discover Magazine 1995
10. Planetary Alignment Decreases Gravity -Astronomer Patrick Moore 1976
April Fool’s Day, or, All Fools’ Day won’t be celebrated anywhere harder than in Washington, D.C., where as most Americans would know by now there are a lot of fools trying to run the United States like the well oiled machine it is supposed to be.
Everyday is April Fool’s Day on Capitol Hill isn’t it?
Who was the dope that thought up April Fool’s anyway, and why?
Not knowing the answer to that question, I decided to google it, and believe me this is no hoax when I say, “I am not anymore educated about the origins of April Fool’s Day then I was when I first started putting together this blog article.”
According to Wikipedia, the origin of April Fool’s Day is obscure, and there are many theories.
I’m not going to get into any of the details, but just visit this link if you care enough to want to know.
Alternatively, you can visit this link, which by the way isn’t anymore informative than the Wikipedia link.
It would seem that there aren’t too many resources on the Internet when it comes to the who, and why April Fool’s Day was “invented,” and what information there is on the Internet doesn’t amount to too much.
The resources I checked out seem to all agree on one thing, that not too many people seem to know much about the day other than it is a day of hoaxes. Why anybody would think we need a special day for that is beyond me, but hey anything for a little bit of fun at somebody else’s expense, right?
Maybe April Fool’s Day is a hoax itself. Maybe the biggest April Fool’s Day hoax of all is convincing us that such a day really exists.
I don’t know, but my guard is up, and I’m looking over my shoulder for the 3 hours and 15 minutes.
